Keeping the lights, the fans and the cold chain on for every clinic

HubPharm already runs its fulfilment centre on solar power and delivers on electric bikes. With SolarCare, the community programme of our Powering Hope initiative, we take that power to health facilities that live with power cuts: solar lighting, solar fans and solar medicine fridges, so mothers can deliver in the light, patients can rest in the heat, and life-saving medicines stay cold.

Why this matters

When the power goes, care goes with it

In many primary health centres, a power cut is not an inconvenience. It decides whether a baby is delivered safely, whether a vaccine still works, and whether a nurse can keep caring through the night.

🔦

Births by torchlight

Night deliveries and emergencies are handled with phone torches and lanterns, which raises the risk for mother and baby.

💉

Medicines that spoil

Vaccines, insulin and other heat-sensitive medicines need steady cold storage. Without it, stock is wasted and patients are turned away.

🌡️

Wards that overheat

In the hot season, wards with no fan become hard to bear for newborns, older patients and the staff caring for them.

⛽

Costly diesel

Generators eat into tight budgets that should go to staff and medicines, and they fail when fuel runs out.

Where Powering Hope began

We already run on the sun

HubPharm's main fulfilment centre runs on solar power, and our deliveries go out on electric bikes. That keeps life-saving medicines moving when the grid fails, and keeps their cold chain intact from our solar hub to the patient's hands.

Powering Hope is more than a green energy milestone. It is a lifeline for people facing the most frightening diagnoses of their lives, who cannot afford a single break in treatment.

Our values

Powered by HOPE

Four values guide how we run Powering Hope, inside HubPharm and in every community we serve.

H

Honesty

We are open about the power and cold-chain gaps in African healthcare, and give honest tracking for high-value medicines.

O

Openness

We share our environmental, social and governance results, and show how green logistics supports adherence and outcomes.

P

Passion

We keep breaking supply-chain bottlenecks so rare and orphan medicines reach patients, however remote they are.

E

Empathy

We understand what a treatment break means to someone with cancer, stroke or infertility, and we protect their medicine to ease that fear.

The strategy

Two prongs, one promise

Powering Hope grows HubPharm's own climate-resilient care and, at the same time, takes that power into public clinics and low-income communities.

Pillar
Inside HubPharm
In the community
❄️ Cold chain and infrastructure
Scale our solar battery capacity for continuous refrigeration of sensitive oncology and biologic treatments.
Deploy solar-powered Hope Box medicine and vaccine fridges, with solar lighting and fans, to off-grid public clinics.
🚲 Last-mile logistics
Grow our electric-bike fleet and set up solar battery-swapping hubs to lower the cost of every delivery.
Offer subsidised or free emission-free delivery to low-income patients living with chronic disease.
🤝 Strategic integration
Partner with international NGOs and oncology care networks that prioritise climate-resilient distribution.
Publish a transparency dashboard tracking carbon saved and hours of uninterrupted medicine safety.

How it works

From nomination to light in four steps

1

Nominate

A health worker, community leader or partner nominates a facility below.

2

Assess

We check the site, power needs, cold-chain needs and safety, with local authorities.

3

Install and train

Certified local technicians install the kit and train staff to use and care for it.

4

Maintain and support

We follow up on performance and maintenance, and connect the facility to HubPharm.

Where we will start

Phase one across West Africa

We are starting where HubPharm already works and where partners can help us reach facilities fastest.

🇳🇬

Nigeria

Our home base, starting with primary health centres and maternity clinics in underserved communities.

🇬🇭

Ghana

Community health facilities working with local partners and health authorities.

🇧🇯

Benin Republic

Rural health centres, delivered with partners on the ground.

Why HubPharm

Built by people who keep medicines moving

HubPharm Africa is chronic care infrastructure. Power is part of that infrastructure: a clinic cannot store insulin or vaccines it cannot keep cold.

📦
We already move medicines

Our supply chain and pharmacists support patients across Africa and the diaspora.

🤖
Digital support built in

Facilities connect to Afiya and our care team for refills, advice and follow-up.

📊
Transparent reporting

We will publish installations, uptime and impact so partners see exactly what their support achieves.

The road ahead

How SolarCare will grow

We are building SolarCare in clear phases, so partners can see what their support achieves at every step.

Now

Partners and nominations

  • Confirm funding and solar equipment partners
  • Collect and review facility nominations
  • Assess first sites with local health authorities
Next

Pilot installations

  • Install the first SolarCare kits in the three countries
  • Train facility staff on use and daily care
  • Link pilot sites to HubPharm medicine supply and Afiya
Then

Scale and report

  • Expand to more facilities with proven results
  • Launch a public dashboard of uptime and impact
  • Publish results in the HubPharm impact report

SolarCare, answered

What partners and health workers ask us most.

Still have a question?

Our team will reply on WhatsApp.

Ask on WhatsApp

Yes. Our main fulfilment centre runs on solar power and our deliveries use electric bikes. Powering Hope builds on that, first to protect the cold chain for our own patients, and now to bring solar power to public clinics.

Public and not-for-profit primary health centres, maternity clinics, rural dispensaries and immunisation points in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic that face frequent power cuts or have no grid connection.

Our aim is for installations to be funded by partners and sponsors. Where a facility or community can contribute, for example to maintenance, we agree this openly during the assessment.

For vaccine storage we will prioritise solar refrigerators prequalified by WHO for immunisation, and work with immunisation programmes so facilities follow national cold-chain rules.

Certified local technicians install the kit, train staff and handle maintenance visits. Staff learn simple daily care, such as keeping panels clean.

We will report on every installation: where it is, what it powers, how reliably it runs and what changes for patients, alongside HubPharm's wider impact reporting.

The community programme is in its launch phase. We are confirming partners and first sites now. Nominate a facility or get in touch to be part of the first phase.

No patient should suffer because a clinic lost power

Fund a facility, supply the equipment or nominate a clinic. Together we can keep the lights, the fans and the cold chain on.
