It is specifically used for patients who are experiencing severe albumin depletion but cannot tolerate large amounts of sodium due to conditions like liver failure, fluid overload, or kidney disease.

Unlike standard solutions, low-salt variants like Zenalb 20 Low Salt Human Albumin or Human Albumin Behring Low Salt provide a high colloid oncotic pressure while strictly limiting sodium intake. When necessary, they should only be diluted with sodium-free carbohydrate solutions, such as 5% Dextrose in Water.
