How should a dose be measured?

What are the most common side effects?

Constipation, nausea, drowsiness and dry mouth. Constipation affects almost everyone taking regular morphine and does not improve on its own, so most prescribers start a laxative at the same time as the morphine. Nausea often settles within a few days.

Very slow or shallow breathing, extreme drowsiness or difficulty waking the patient, confusion, or blue-tinged lips. These can signal respiratory depression and need emergency help immediately.

Can Oramorph be taken with alcohol?

No. Alcohol markedly increases the sedative and breathing-related effects of morphine. The same applies to sleeping tablets, benzodiazepines and gabapentinoids unless your prescriber has deliberately planned the combination.

Can the dose be stopped suddenly?

No. After regular use, morphine should be reduced gradually under the direction of the prescriber to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Never stop abruptly on your own.

Can someone drive while taking Oramorph?
