Indenza contains enzalutamide, a second-generation androgen receptor inhibitor used in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Enzalutamide works differently from older anti-androgens. It blocks testosterone from binding to the androgen receptor, stops the receptor moving into the cell nucleus, and prevents it switching on the genes that drive prostate cancer growth. Unlike abiraterone, enzalutamide does not require a daily steroid. Can enzalutamide cause seizures?

Seizures are an uncommon but recognised risk. The risk is higher in patients with a history of seizures, brain metastases, significant head injury, or who take other medicines that lower the seizure threshold. Tell your oncologist about any of these before starting, and report any blackout or unusual episode immediately.

What are the common side effects?

Tiredness, hot flushes, high blood pressure, headache, falls and fractures, and difficulty with memory or concentration. Fatigue is the effect patients most often find limiting. Report falls, since fracture risk rises with them.

Does enzalutamide affect other medicines?

Yes, significantly.
